Station Road

The site is situated along Station Road East in Ash Vale, Aldershot. The Local Authority appointed ERMC to build a bespoke detached chalet bungalow dwelling in place of the existing bungalow.

In addition, the Client requested a design to provide accessible and convenient accommodation for a family of up to 6 with two severely disabled occupants. The design criteria was therefore required to cover the needs of all occupants, with and without disabilities with an emphasis on accessibility across the ground floor areas.

The Client appointed ERMC to gain planning permission for an additional dwelling attached to an existing two-storey building into the adjoining garden land to form two separate residential units. This was to include the change of use from 2 maisonette bedsits into a suitably configured family dwelling, via the removal of a ground floor dividing wall.

The following considerations were incorporate into the design;

  • Compliance with National Space Standards.

  • Incorporate Lifetime Home requirements wherever appropriate, to increase flexibility for tenant occupation.

  • Design to be in keeping with the surrounding vernacular and context.

  • Improve the context with interest in architectural styling that is appropriate but not purely replication of existing housing stock.

  • Deliver a sustainable and environmental considered design.
