Transport Improvements

Portsmouth was the recipient of £80m as a result of a successful bid for funding from the Department of Transport’s ‘Transforming Cities’ Fund. Part of the fund (£10m) was allocated to transport improvements in Ryde, Isle of Wight.

Bids for funding were subsequently invited for transport related projects, and Wightlink suggested the idea of a Pier walkway, running the length of Ryde Pier and connecting St Johns with Pier Head Station, under cover. Concepts were designed by our sub-brand Rainey Petrie Architecture to provide both enclosure and respite along its length.
