Wildflower Meadow Install

Due to the presence of an area of unimproved retained grasslands, the design for this scheme was focused on enhancing biodiversity and promoting ecological sustainability by converting the previously pastured grass into a flourishing wildflower meadow. The specified seed mix [1], consisting of 80% grass and 20% native UK wildflowers, was carefully chosen to support local wildlife and create a habitat that mimics natural meadow ecosystems. To jumpstart the meadow's development and encourage early flowering, we sowed a Cornflower annual mix [2] as a nurse seed. This mix will help establish a vibrant flowering meadow in the first year.

Once the initial flowering phase concludes and the meadow is cut, we will transition to managing the area as a mature meadow. Over time, the native meadow species will gradually replace the cornfield annuals, resulting in a self-sustaining, diverse habitat that will continue to evolve and support a wide range of flora and fauna. This approach not only improves the aesthetic and ecological value of the land but also contributes to the long-term preservation of native plant species and the overall health of the ecosystem.
